Singer and songwriter Adele filed for divorce from separated husband Simon Konecki five months after announcing the separation.
According to People magazine, divorce documents were filed in a Los Angeles court.
The 31-year-old singer requested the annulment of her marriage to her 45-year-old husband on Thursday in Los Angeles, People said.
The development comes five months after Konecki and the Grammy-winning singer, who have a six-year-old son, Angelo, announced in a joint statement that they separated after seven years of being together.
Weeks after Adele was seen without her wedding ring, her representative issued a statement in April, confirming her separation.
“Adele and her partner have separated,” the singer’s representative said in a statement to US Magazine at the time.
“They are committed to raising their child together with love. As always, they ask for privacy. There will be no more comments,” the representative added.
Adele broke the silence about her breakup the same month by posting a funny meme of herself on Instagram.
“When you get caught up in your feelings, you remember who you are,” she captioned two photos of herself. In one photo she looks distraught and in another, she looks absolutely safe and happy.
With divorce proceedings, not only will your child’s custody be determined, but also your finances. According to several media in the United Kingdom, as quoted by People, it is believed that the singer and Konecki did not sign a prenuptial agreement when they married in 2011.
As Adele filed for divorce in the state of California, where they own Konecki’s property and business, she could be entitled to half of the singer’s earnings.
It is possible that the winning singer of 15 Grammy awards is channeling her life experiences and her recent break with new music. Earlier this year, they saw her heading to a recording studio.
Adele and Konecki made their relationship public in January 2012. Six months later, the singer announced that she was pregnant. The singer of ‘Hello’ and Konecki welcomed her son Angelo on October 19, 2012. Adele and Konecki got married in December 2016. However, she managed to keep the news private for a few months.
While accepting the Album of the Year for her studio album titled ’25’ at the Grammy Awards in February 2017, she publicly recognized Konecki as her husband for the first time.
This was Konecki’s second marriage. He was previously married to stylist Clary Fisher from 2004 to 2008, and they have a daughter.
Adele, who fiercely keeps her private life, did not confirm her union with her partner Konecki until 2017, when she referred to herself as a “married” woman during a concert.
She also referred to Konecki as her husband while accepting a Grammy in 2017
Konecki is co-founder of Life water and its charity Drop4drop, which promotes global access to clean water.
