Musician Anoushka Shankar recently underwent a double hysterectomy and has now decided to share details about it with his fans. Shankar wrote in a long Twitter post on Saturday, entitled “LADY BITS, by Anoushka Shankar” and added: “Swipe your finger to read why I no longer have a uterus and why I decided to tell you.”
He began his note with details about the surgery: “As of last month, I no longer have a uterus. I had double surgery: a gynecologist-oncologist performed a hysterectomy due to my large fibroids, which made my uterus as large as if I was six months pregnant, and an amazing surgeon removed several additional tumors from my abdomen (which luckily I heard later they were all benign). A tumor had grown through my muscles and was visibly protruding from my stomach. There were 13 tumors in total. ”

He also talked about how the discovery of his illness left her depressed and worried about her children. “When I discovered a few months ago that I needed my uterus removed, I had a short-term depression. The news provoked fears about my femininity, my possible desire to have more children in the future, the fear of dying in surgery and leaving my children without a mother, the effect that changes can have on my sex life and more. I talked with friends and family about my news and I was surprised to discover how many women had had hysterectomies, although I never knew they had them. ”
He also wrote: “I was wondering why there was no more talk about surgery if it was so common. When I asked him, a woman replied:” Well, we are not going to show our bits of woman everywhere, right? ”

“I look back and grieve for my youngest self and for all the girls I knew, for how much we expected to face in silence. I have always considered myself as someone who comfortably shares most thoughts and experiences. However, I look back and realize that I allowed my internalized shame and shame around sexual health, and my period, in particular, remains unanswered for all these years, “he wrote.
Anoushka shared more details about his gynecological history and then revealed that he effectively bled during the middle of his teenage life: “ten days at a time every 20-25 days.”
Anoushka is the daughter of Pandit Ravi Shankar and was married to British director Joe Wright for seven years before they decided to separate at the beginning of last year. They have two children.
