Amitabh Bachchan was unanimously selected for this year’s Dadasaheb Phalke Award on Tuesday. As soon as the announcement was made, the Bollywood icon began receiving congratulatory messages from fans around the world. Among them was the cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who went to Twitter to congratulate the Bollywood legend with a unique style. Sachin Tendulkar used Amitabh Bachchan’s famous dialogue from the hit 1990 film Agneepath and revealed that this line gives him goosebumps even today.
The Bollywood mega star and one of the best actors in the Hindi film industry, Amitabh Bachchan, received the prestigious Dada Sahab Phalke award. The Minister of Information and Broadcasting of the Union, Prakash Javadekar himself, shared the information on the Big B concession to the most prestigious and coveted National Film Awards.
Prakash Javadekar shared the information through a Twitter post from his official account. The Minister of I&B, in his tweet, wrote: “The legend Amitabh Bachchan that entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been unanimously selected for the Dada Sahab Phalke award. The whole country and the international community are happy with that. My sincerest congratulations to him. @narendramodi @SrBachchan “.
To honor Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, considered the father of Indian cinema, the National Film Awards named the most prestigious and coveted prize in Indian cinema after him. Dhundiraj Govind Phalke is the first man who made the “first Indian film” entitled “Raja Harishchandra” in 1913. He was popularly known as “Dadasaheb Phalke”.
Dadasaheb Phalke then made 95 films and 26 short films in a span of 19 years. The prize in honor of his contribution to the cinema, therefore, was called “Dadasaheb Phalke Award”. It was introduced in 1969 by the government to recognize the contribution of film personalities to the development of Indian cinema.
