Farhan wrote: “Cutting trees at night is a pathetic attempt to try to get away with it, even those who know it know it’s wrong. #Aarey #GreenIsGold #Mumbai.”
While some of the Twitterati supported the actors’ tirade against the government, most of the others criticized their position, suggesting that they did not fully understand the importance of the government’s decision to establish Metro roads for public convenience. Many accused them of being typical celebrities who only made fun of the causes.
“Save the tree, save life,” a user agreed with Dia, while another expressed surprise at Dia’s revelation saying he was “speechless.”
However, most users did not seem convinced by their campaign.
“Do you know how much carbon footprint each of you leaves, no matter if it is small or large, compared to an ordinary man? First try to reduce that,” one user wrote, while another commented, “Let’s start a movement to get out too. from the movie City of #Aarey. ”
“Day, calm down and read the verdict of Hon Bombay HC. For a change, you must also understand the other side of the story and be well informed. The rhetoric does not always work when society’s greatest interests are involved,” wrote another user .
Another user uploaded an explanation published by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, defending his decision to cut down trees in the area and underlining how no act of wildlife has been violated in the process.
Another user wrote: “I may be missing the point. Can anyone help me with a thread that scientifically proposes an alternative location. The protest of” not building the automobile basin in #Aarey “understood, but what alternative arrangement is suggested ? ”
“Agar padhe like hote to protest hello kyon karte, the so-called famous environmental activists at your convenience, will go to protest in a 3000cc diesel SUV to give gyaan when cutting a tree,” wrote another user.
The reactions to Farhan’s tweet were no less harsh.
One user wrote: “Farhan bhai, have you ever traveled by local train in Mumbai? I guess it doesn’t take much to tweet while driving in your SUV with the air conditioning on at full speed. The subway will make the lives of millions of Mumbaikars best.”
“Leave your luxury car at home and travel locally from Churchgate to Virar Kalyan to CST at peak hours,” another user tweeted.
Another user commented on Farhan’s page: “Such people are electoral activists … They don’t care about the topic, most of the time they don’t completely understand the topic … It’s before a movie or before an election” .
